West Almanor Community Services District
The West Almanor Fire Department (WAFD) is part of the West Almanor Community Services District (WACSD), a body the was established by Plumas County to provide fire protection, fire prevention, emergency medical response, groundwater quality monitoring and septic system monitoring services to the Lake Almanor West community. The District relies on a share of property tax revenues, plus a voter approved tax supplement, to fund its operations. At the present time, WACSD has one full-time paid employee, the Fire Chief/General Manager, who is supported by part-time paid fill-in staff in the Chief's absence and a handful of your neighbors who are volunteer firefighters. The fire station on Long Iron Drive houses two fire engines, one quick-attack/rescue vehicle, a command/tow vehicle and a fire/rescue boat. Oversight and policy matters are addressed by a five member Board of Directors who are elected to four year terms by voters registered within Lake Almanor West. Considerable additional helpful information on fire prevention, yard clean-up matters, tree removals and septic system maintenance is available at the fire station or may also be found at the WACSD/WAFD website.
Utilities
As previously noted, domestic water within the development is supplied by the West Almanor Mutual Water Company. Electrical service is provided by Pacific Gas & Electric Company (PG&E), and propane is available through several nearby private vendors. Frontier provides telephone service and offers internet services as well. Some but not all lots within the development have access to cable TV service; satellite TV service is available from more than one supplier.
Trash Disposal
Feather River Disposal services the development, with once weekly trash pickup service. Covered garbage cans should be curbside first thing in the morning on trash pickup day (currently Mondays); check with your neighbors for specifics, or contact Feather River Disposal directly.
