To start: ● Turn gas valve ON ● With the engine switch OFF, pull the start handle 1 to 3 times to "loosen up" the engine ● Set choke to full ON ● (Most generators have an automatic throttle, so there should be no throttle setting to deal with) ● Push primer "button" 2 or 3 times (if so equipped) ● Turn engine switch (key) ON ● Start by pulling handle briskly (or by using the battery start mode if so equipped)
Once started, adjust the choke as necessary to keep the engine running smoothly. An internal governor controls the throttle automatically on most generators., Allow the engine to warm up for a couple of minutes before generating power. The choke should be OFF before that point. Then, turn circuit breaker(s) or power switch(es) ON.
To stop: ● Turn circuit breaker(s) or power switch(es) OFF ● Turn engine switch (key) OFF ● Turn gas valve OFF
Turn the engine OFF and allow it to cool for a few minutes before refueling. Store extra fuel safely (preferably outside). Remember that if the power is out in Chester, the service station gas pumps there probably won't be operating.
Telephones
Make sure that you have at least one "corded" phone in the house, since cordless phones don't work when the power is out. Also, be aware that because of terrain blockages, cell phones don't work everywhere within the development.
