CYNDY HORN - PRESIDENT

Almanor has been my second home since the 1950’s. My family camped at the National Forest camp on the West Shore, for two-three weeks every summer. A night out for dinner included the Almanor West Clubhouse, Carol’s at Prattville, or Plumas Pines. The camping tradition, especially sleeping out under the stars, continued once I got married, so our sons basically grew up here with swimming, waterskiing, climbing Lassen, and many campfires. The wonderful memories of mountain life brought us back to buy a lot in the 1990’s, and to build a home in 2007/08. As a graduate of Chico State in teaching, and a Masters in Reading from CSU Sacramento, I taught for 30 years, and raised two wonderful sons with my husband Dick. We are now year round residents, but have graduated to a trailer for our outdoor summer travels. We are blessed to be able to pass the Almanor experience on to our four grandchildren, with the love of the mountains, boating on the lake, golfing, and exploring Mt. Lassen. Thank you for this opportunity to serve your wonderful LAWCC Auxiliary Board, and continue the tradition of providing a program that meets the needs of everyone in our community through interest groups, luncheons/dinners, projects, and special events.

JUDY MARTIN - 1st VICE PRESIDENT

I was raised in Lodi and moved to Santa Cruz in 1962.  I went to work for Longs Drug Store in 1968 and moved to San Jose in 1972.  I married Hal in 1977.  We have been together for 32 years, and have 5 children between us.  To keep busy, we have 17 grandchildren who love taking turns visiting us.  We both had long careers with Longs Drug Store.  I worked 32 years and Hal worked 42 years with the company.

During the winter of 2003 we came here to visit our daughter at her vacation home.  It was so peaceful here watching the snow fall.  I was immediately hooked and we purchased a lot.  I feel blessed to have been able to build our dream home here in 2004.  We have met so many wonderful people in this community, where we like to participate in kayaking, hiking, snowshoeing, boating, etc.  I have wonderful neighbors who have encouraged me to play bridge and to take up quilting.  I have become involved in the Hospital Auxiliary, the Quilt Guild and now the LAWCC Auxiliary.  I am looking forward to serving you on this board with some wonderful ladies.

LYDIA FREEBY - 2nd VICE PRESIDENT

After many years of owning our lot at Lake Almanor West, my husband and I had our house built in 2005.  We are both retired now, John from Yolo County Health Department and I from teaching for the Davis School District.  We have a son who lives with his wife in New York City and soon we hope to be grandparents.

We now divide our time between our five acres in Davis and our home in beautiful LAW.  We love the mountains, lake and wonderful people of LAW.  This is truly paradise and I'm happy to be involved in a small way.  We hope to meet many more residents of LAW at the fun activities in which the Auxiliary is involved.

Our hobbies are now pretty much confined to developing a yard at LAW and keeping up our acreage in Davis, although John enjoys woodworking and I enjoy photography.

JERI KENDRICK - SECRETARY

I was born and raised in Whittier, CA. until high school. I returned to Whittier for college, majoring in Speech Therapy and Elementary education. Larry and I married in 1967 and raised our three kids on the east coast before finally returning to CA in June, 2010. I spent 20 years teaching First Grade and special education (very glad for a special education masters in reading!) and then ten years as a college professor directing an elementary education program and supervising student teachers. We have six grandchildren; unfortunately four are in Germany and two in PA, necessitating many air plane trips. We fell in love with Lake Almanor more than ten years ago as we visited Barbara and Rick and Dar each year. We are thrilled to be able to spend our “retirement” years here in “God’s country”, and after 20 years in Chicago, we don’t think the weather and snow here is very bad! I look forward to being on the board and learning more about our new community as I work with a great group of women.

DOROTHY AITKEN - TREASURER

I spent my growing up years in Germany, Canada, Ohio and So. Calif.  My husband Dave and I raised our five children in Fullerton, Ca., where we were involved in 4-H and FFA.  Over the years I did volunteer work in the PTA and teaching sewing in 4-H.

We moved to Lake Almanor West in 2009.  Our first visit to the area was in 1991 while camping at Rocky Point.  We love living in this beautiful setting among the trees and near the lake and golf course.  Summers are spent boating, golfing, fishing and hiking with family and friends.  Our nine grandkids also enjoy coming up on their own for individual attention and learning some new skills.

The challenge of moving to the mountains is sharing my flowers with the deer.  I am always trying out new deer resistant sprays and plants.  I just wish the summers were longer!  Being on the auxiliary board will keep me busy during the colder months and give me a chance to meet even more of the nice people in our community.  I look forward to serving as treasurer and to a great 2012.
